SCN is a community oriented, not-for-profit organization founded in 1990,
affiliated with Shepherd’s Centers of America, a national association of
more than 70 centers serving older adults across the United States.
SCN is dedicated to promoting the physical, mental and social well-being
of older adults and assisting them in maintaining their dignity, continued
productivity and independence.
Our primary service area is southern Clay County, which includes
Gladstone, Liberty, and North Kansas City. Also, in some instances,
SCN serves southern Platte County.
We have seven part-time staff and over 400 retirees, working persons and
student volunteers who donated about 27,000 hours this year to fulfill our mission.
And what is our mission?
It is to “Improve the quality of life of older adults in the Northland”.
We have identified two areas of need—
One, is for a variety of Services that help older adults remain
independent and retain their dignity.
The second need we have identified is for Enrichment.
These are programs that allow older adults to share their many
areas of expertise with others in the community and to
also continue learning and growing themselves.
Shepherd’s Center of the Northland is a non-profit agency with
IRS 501(C)(3) designation. We are funded through grants, individual and
business donations, 60 supporting religious congregations, United Way,
and fund raising events. We also have an Endowment Fund which will give
us financial stability for long term operations and expansion.
Donations to SCN are tax deductible.
