Shepherd's Center of the Northland
has many opportunities for giving of your time and talents.
We specialize in finding the right position just for you and
making it work with your schedule!
We invite you to volunteer with us whether it is weekly,
monthly or just occasionally. We know you will be a blessing
and be blessed by the older adults for whom we provide services and
enrichment opportunities. Below is a listing of our volunteer
opportunities.
Senior Information Center--Desk Volunteer
Volunteer- Trained to answer office phones, complete client Call
Check and provide information for incoming calls. Also calls other
volunteers to fill Transportation and Handyman needs.
(3 hours per week from 9:00am-Noon or Noon-3:00pm or as an
occasional substitute)
Transportation
Volunteer- Provides tranportation to medical appointments and
financial institutions. Requires a valid driver's license and insurance.
Volunteer picks client up at home, delivers, stays with client during
appointment, and returns client home.
Most trips take 2-3 hours.
(Volunteers are called and may refuse or accept rides as fits their
schedule)
Handyman
Volunteers-Retired craftsmen or those who enjoy completing
minor household repairs. Cost of materials is provided
by clients. Program Coordinator okays larger projects.
(Volunteer is called and may refuse or accept repair as their skills
and time allows.)
Friendly Visitor
Volunteer- Provides friendship for homebound older adults.
(1 hour per week minimum visiting in client's home or on phone)
Grocery Van
Volunteer- Assist clients from pick up at their homes, shopping,
and helping in with purchases. SCN has two routes with 3 runs
each per month.
(4 hours each run. Some volunteers ride the van, while others
meet us at the store.)
Personal Grocery Shopper
Volunteer- Provide grocery shopping on a temporary or permanent
basis for homebound older adults. Some clients prefer to go with
the volunteer while others send a list and money.
(1-3 hours as needed and available)
Respite
Volunteer- Relieve regular care givers and supervise, assist, and
provide companionship to homebound client.
(2-4 hours once a week or as requested and available)
CLAIM
Volunteer- Assist in completion of Medicare Parts A&B and
supplemental insurance claims. Also assist with Medicare
Part D Prescription Plan decisions.
(Initially an 18 hour training by Missouri Department of
Insurance, thereafter 1-2 hours weekly or as requested and
as available.)
The Flock That Folds
Volunteer- Prepare the SCN newsletter for bulk mailing.
Complete packaging projects for area companies and
organizations as a fundraiser.
(4 hours six times a year for newsletter and as requested and as
available for packaging projects.)
Ushering
Volunteer- Usher at special events at area theaters as a fundraiser.
(Typically 4-6 hours with instruction provided at the event.)
BreakTime Club
Volunteer- Assist ambulatory clients with lunch and other
activities throughout the day. Also, set up, lunch cleanup
and assist clients to and from rides.
(Tuesdays, 9:00am-2:30pm or as available)
Learning & Laughter
Volunteer- Assist ambulatory clients with lunch and other
activities throughout the day. Also, set up, lunch cleanup
and assist clients to and from rides.
